Shooting outside Barberton Magistrate’s Court, one person killed

The police are investigating a shooting incident that recently occurred outside the Barberton Magistrate’s Court where one person was killed and three were assaulted.

One person was fatally shot and three people assaulted in an incident that occurred outside the Barberton Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday January 16.

A provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Donald Mdhluli, said the incident occurred during the court appearance of six suspects in connection with the murder of Mandla Mamba, a former City of Mbombela (CoM) councillor and ANC member.

Mamba was gunned down in Barberton in the early hours of July 2 last year.

He said preliminary investigations suggest that a scuffle broke out between people who were outside the court and it is also alleged that during this time, there were people that were severely assaulted with one being shot and killed. Circumstances surrounding this incident are still under investigation.

He said the police have opened a murder case with three additional counts of attempted murder.

The deceased is yet to be identified.
