An informative day hosted by Hi-Tech Security in partnership with the local police and Wolves Martial Arts Academy saw Mbombela residents learn all about self-defence, security and safety.

Several Lowvelders spent their Saturday, October 14, learning all about self-defence and arming themselves with important knowledge in matters of security and keeping themselves and their families safe.

The event was held on the Nelspruit Primary rugby field, hosted by Hi-Tech Security in partnership with the local police and Wolves Martial Arts Academy. It featured security and safety discussions with the attendees, and ended in self-defence demonstrations.

With free entrance to the event, many Lowvelders showed up with their families and friends. They also had the chance of winning a few prizes as well as purchasing and learning about self-defence equipment, such as tasers and pepper spray.

Attendees were also treated to a surprise visit from the Mpumalanga Emergency Medical Services helicopter, which landed on the rugby field.

The discussions started out with surrounding security by Hi-Tech Security’s Frank Swanepoel and Lappies Labuschagne. This was followed by an informative talk by Colonel Coert Dreyer. The topic he covered was ‘Your Rights, The Law,’ which included information about the do’s and don’ts when it comes to defending yourself inside your house and your direct neighbourhood against unwanted visitors, hijackings and more.

Shaun Nieuwenhuizen of SCMS Firearm Training Academy explained to the attendees how firearm training complies with legislation, and also spoke on the practical use of firearms.

The discussion followed a demonstration by Wolves Martial Arts Academy, who also took charge of helping attendees safely practise the moves demonstrated by the instructors.
