Feed the Hunger Organisation in Mbombela shows love to the homeless

The organisation goes around public parks, streets lights and gives the homeless people food. They also visit some schools to donate school uniforms just to show their love to people who are in need.

The city’s homeless have received a glimmer of hope, thanks to the Samaritans of Feeding the Hunger.

“No one should go a day without food,” the provincial co-ordinator, Zakhele Shongwe, said, adding that their main purpose is to make sure people living on the streets always have something to eat.

The organisation also wants to encourage members of the public to show some love, respect and care for the homeless.
“We go around Mbombela’s public parks and streets and give them food. We also visit some schools to donate school uniforms. We are doing all of this to show love to people who are in need. We cannot reach everyone on the streets of Mbombela, but we believe that everyone can have a hand in assisting them when they see them.”

Shongwe also said the people who are living on the streets are there for various reasons. Some are homeless due to unemployment and lack of qualifications, while others ended up homeless after taking drugs to forget their sorrows, and they too need to be shown love.

“Some of the people do not need food or money, they just need someone to talk to as they left their homes due to family problems,” he added.
So far, everyone involved with the organisation is using money from their own pockets, as they do not have any sponsors. They request anyone who can assist the organisation to contact them. People can donate food or money that will go towards feeding the hungry.

One of the beneficiaries, Stella de Beer, said she has been living on the streets with her two children for a year, and the organisation has been very helpful towards them.
“They provide us with food, and during the winter they gave us some blankets. Those who donate would be helping people like me,” she said.
