Two men suspected of dealing in drugs arrested in Sabie

The police arrested two men in Sabie in connection with suspected drug trafficking related crimes. Over R50 000 was allegedly found in their possession.

Two men were arrested in Sabie on Wednesday, August 23, on the suspicion of dealing in drugs. They were allegedly found with R54 000 in cash.

According to a provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, the two men, Nigerian nationals aged 42 and 43, were arrested by the Sabie police during Operation Shanela.

He said the confiscated cash is believed to have been accumulated from drug dealing activities. In addition to charges of dealing in drugs, the two were also charged for contravention of the Immigration Act, after it was discovered that the pair did not have valid documentation to be in South Africa.

Mohlala said 12 other foreign nationals aged between 28 and 50 were also arrested during the operation, when the police realised they too did not have valid documentation.

The two suspects arrested on charges of drug-dealing are expected to appear in the Sabie Magistrate’s Court on Friday August 25. The other 12 suspects appeared at the court on Thursday August 24.

Mohlala said two suspects, aged 28 and 29, were granted R3 000 bail each, while the rest were remanded in custody. It is unknown when next they are expected to appear in court.
