Major clean-up of R40 undertaken between White River and Mbombela

The major clean-up was part of the effort to keep Mbombela and White River neat and tidy, as these are important entry points for tourism and the province's capital city.

We Care 4 Nelspruit, The Power of 8000 and some local businesses held a major clean-up on the R40 from Msholozi to Brinkspruit on July 31.

This will continue to August 4, and is part of keeping Mbombela and White River clean, as these are key entry points for tourism and the province’s capital city. We Care 4 Nelspruit founder, Pr TJ Maré, said cleaning the R40 is part of the two organisations’ mandate to keep these towns and main routes neat.

“Tourists going to the Panorama Route or Kruger National Park use the R40. The residents within these two towns are also using the same road. The municipality is doing its part, but its capacity is not enough. We cannot wait for them, and took it upon ourselves to keep clean where we are staying,” he said.

Maré said this will again attract investors and increase property values in White River and Mbombela. He thanked all the stakeholders who came on board to assist them with various donations. “We are calling on other businesses and community members to donate to the two organisations, since they are not getting any grants from the government. We are depending on donors, and without them, we will not make it.”

He said people can donate any of the following: 25 meals a day for a week, petrol, two-stroke oil, diesel, refuse bags, drinking water, brush-cutter string or money.

Rhodes Abell from The Power of 8000 said they have joined forces with We Care 4 Nelspruit in this initiative, as the R40 also passes through their town, and they want to keep it neat at all times. He also thanked all the sponsors who assisted and said he hoped other businesses would also come on board.

The spokesperson for the City of Mbombela, Joseph Ngala, said they welcomed this initiative, as the government alone cannot do it. He said the municipality is acknowledging the good job the private sector and the two organisations is doing, and they are grateful for it.
