Man shot in Mbombela CBD

A man was shot in the Mbombela CBD when he allegedly tried to steal items from another man’s car.

A man sustained a minor gunshot wound to the leg on Tuesday afternoon, August 1, on the corner of Bester and Brown streets when he allegedly tried to steal items from another man’s vehicle.

Emer-G-Med’s Martin Jeffrey said the man, thought to be in his 20s, was shot through the calf. Emer-G-Med transported him to Rob Ferreira Hospital in a stable condition.

Jeffrey said he had received the call at 14:36, and when he arrived on the scene, he found the man lying in front of a shop in Bester Street. He said the police were also on the scene.

It is unclear exactly what had happened leading up to the shooting, however, reports from the scene indicate the man had tried to steal items from another man’s car on the corner of Bester and Brown streets.

A Nelspruit Police Station spokesperson, Constable Bongani Mokoena, said he was still gathering information regarding the incident at the time of publishing.
