Lowveld cold not over yet

Get your thicker jacket back out of the closet. The Lowveld is expected to have two more days of coldness.

Following the recent cold and in some cases snowy conditions, July 20 and 21 are predicted to dip again.

According to an advisory from SAWS, valid from July 20 to 21, very cold conditions are expected.

“A strong ridging high system preceded by a cold front, together with a steep upper trough aloft, will result in a drastic drop in temperatures with maximums expected to be below 10ºC for the Mpumalanga Highveld and escarpment areas on Thursday (July 20) into Friday (July 21).

“Rain and showers are also expected over the provinces of Limpopo and Mpumalanga. Due to the wind chill factor, temperatures may feel colder than the measured values.”

The advisory listed the following areas in Mpumalanga being expected to be affected:
• Ehlanzeni
• Nkangala
• Gert Sibande.

SAWS advised the public and small stock farmers that the very cold, wet and windy conditions may pose a risk to livestock, vulnerable crops and plants.
