A 200-strong team of South African firefighters departed from KMI Airport this afternoon, June 3, to help fight wildfires in Alberta, Canada.
The team left the airport on a chartered aircraft.
A statement by the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment’s Working on Fire programme said the deployment followed a request for urgent assistance from the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre.
