Mpumalanga High Court sets pretrial conference date for rhino poaching, money laundering trial

The accused in a case, which was postponed again to July, included two murdered alleged kingpins of a rhino poaching syndicate.

The matter against four accused in a rhino poaching and money laundering trial has been postponed by the Mpumalanga High Court for a pretrial conference on July 17.

This is according to Mpumalanga National Prosecuting Authority’s Monica Nyuswa.

Claude Lubisi, Joseph Nyalunga, Aretha Mhlanga and Rachel Qwebana had been arrested along with two deceased alleged kingpins of a massive rhino poaching syndicate, Chief Clyde Mnisi and Petros Mabuza in September 2018.

Mnisi was gunned down in an apparent hit on March 26 next to the KMI Airport road near White River.

Mabuza, known to many as Mshengu, was shot multiple times in broad daylight opposite a garage in Hazyview on June 17, 2021.

The four remaining accused had appeared in the Mpumalanga High Court on May 19 when the date for the pretrial conference was set.
