Absa Lowveld Air Show ready to thrill one and all

The Absa Lowveld Air Show promises an exciting line, including the much-anticipated magnificent fireworks display at the end of the display, sure to thrill each and every person attending this year's spectacle.

The Absa Lowveld Air Show is set to captivate and enthrall visitors with a spectacular show this weekend, May 13.

A media launch was held for the event at Bel Ombre Restaurant and Bar on Wednesday May 3. The launch introduced the revival of the air show, one of the Lowveld’s most anticipated events, and the exciting line-up it has in store for the people of Mbombela.

Johan Heine of the Absa Lowveld Air Show committee said his team had worked very hard to put together a magnificent display that is sure to thrill each and every person who attends the spectacle this Saturday.

Heine, who has been a member of the committee since its inception 19 years ago, emphasised that the Absa Lowveld Air Show is very unique and has played a leading role in the South African air show circuit throughout the years.

It is also the only one in South Africa to end with a magnificent fireworks display these past 19 years. Heine said it is widely known for its world-class pilots and displays, and this year’s event will be no different. He also thanked Absa for the support the bank is providing to ensure this year’s installation is a success yet again.

At the end of the launch, a lucky draw was held for a helicopter flip. The winner, Rayvial Francis, excitedly accepted her prize and said she was now looking forward to the event more than ever.

This year’s show will kick off with a spectacular opening, featuring the big parachute flag being circled by two Extra 300 aircraft of the renowned Extra Duo Team.

This will be followed by the debut performance of the magnificent Extra Duo Team themselves with the legendary Nigel Hopkins as the leader, one of the highlights of this year’s display. Their precision flying and synchronised manoeuvres will undoubtedly leave the crowd spellbound.

Another act making their first appearance at the Absa Lowveld Air Show is the Marksmen team. Comprising three aircraft, their thrilling performance promises to be a captivating spectacle that should not be missed.

Lowvelders can also expect mesmerising displays by the Airlink Embraer E190, the Working on Fire Hueys, the Goodyear Eagle Team, the L39 Jet, the Flying Lions and the RV Raptors Team.

Before the show starts, however, there will also be a display of model aircraft, the Bat Hawk, and a procession of firetrucks, cars and motorcycles on the runway.
And in true Lowveld Air Show tradition, the event will end with a glorious fireworks display, a hallmark that always captivates the audience.
