We Care 4 Nelspruit allegedly threatened by CoM employees

The municipal workers allegedly accused We Care 4 Nelspruit of stealing their overtime money.

We Care 4 Nelspruit workers have allegedly been threatened by some City of Mbombela (CoM) employees, accusing them of stealing their overtime money by doing their jobs.

According to the founder of the organisation, Pr TJ Maré, his team was approached by a CoM vehicle sporting waste management signage. The three of the occupants instructed the We Care 4 Nelspruit workers to stop working or they would send people to come and kill them.

Maré said this was the second time his team had been threatened by the municipal employees, and nothing was done even though the matter was reported to CoM.
“The officials told my workers that if they continue to work on the streets they will send people to kill them. They accused us of stealing their overtime money. We are not going to be moved or frightened by their stunt, instead we will continue to keep our city clean. We are doing a good job for our residents and we will not stop.

“If need be, we will ask the security companies to keep our workers safe, because our mandate is to make sure that the city is clean,” he said.
CoM spokesperson Joseph Ngala, said they were aware of the threat and are investigating the matter.
“We Care 4 Nelspruit has permission to clean all municipal areas. Therefore, no one has the right to chase away or threaten its workers. The municipality will not tolerate such conduct from its employees,” he said.

He also said disciplinary measures will be taken against those who were involved if they are identified.
“We strongly condemn such acts as unacceptable and our staff members must refrain from threatening people who are partnering with the municipality,” said Ngala.
