Hospice White River fundraiser a smashing success

The main aim of all its functions is to raise money towards providing palliative care and educating the residents about White River Hospice.

It was a night of glamour and fun at the hospice fundraising event at Ocean Basket on Friday.
The manager of Hospice White River, Terran Gericke, said the main aim of all its functions is to raise money towards providing palliative care and educating the residents on how hospice assists the community.

She said the evening was a success and will hopefully be the first of many.
“We are a non-profit organisation, relying on public funding to pay for the day-to-day running of the hospice. Unfortunately, since Covid-19, our donations have dropped drastically, so we are trying everything in our power to raise sufficient money to cover monthly expenses and to continue to do the important work we do,” she said.

The event was considered one of the best ever and the venue was packed.
“We believe our next fundraiser will attract even more sponsors and people,” Gericke said.

The guests were entertained by Greek dancing and music, and according to tradition, the plates were smashed on the floor. There was a lucky draw and several bags of goodies found new homes.

Gericke called on the public to donate towards Hospice White River. Enquiries: 013 750 3044.
