#HaalAsem expedition on the Orange River off to a rowing start

Rain caused members of the Spoorloos team to delay their journey, but once the skies had cleared up, the boats' engines started.

The Spoorloos team members set out on their #HaalAsem journey on Saturday March 11, but due to rainy weather, they could only start up their boats yesterday, March 12.

The day one trajectory kicked off where the Orange River flows into South Africa from Lesotho: the Eastern Cape. The teams faced more challenges than expected from the beginning right to the end of the day.

Spending more than 12 hours on the Orange River, double the water time as planned, due to carrying the boats by hand to avoid dangerous rapids, not being equipped to travel it at night and with a shortage of water and food supplies, the teams were extremely tired when they finally arrived at Aliwal North at 23:30.
