City of Mbombela in the process of repairing potholes

Though the municipality is currently working to repair as many potholes as it can, the constant rain is not making matters easy.

The City of Mbombela (CoM) had already been planning to repair the city’s potholes before the floods.

The municipality started on some, while others had been patched up between spells of rain, which are still hindering progress.

The CoM spokesperson, Joseph Ngala, said, “The ground had already been prepared in some areas, but the rain forced our workers to stop working on them. However, we immediately returned to the streets after it stopped, but with more rainfall forecasted, it will disrupt us.”

Ngala said they will repair some of the potholes caused by storms at busy intersections while waiting for the provincial disaster management centre to conclude its assessment of the damage caused by the recent floods.

“We do not have a timeframe regarding when they are going to finish patching them up, but the good thing is that they are on the ground. We plead with motorists to be patient and to always drive with caution when approaching potholes to avoid causing accidents and damaging their cars,” he said.

Meanwhile, some motorists and businesses have already expressed their dissatisfaction with the potholes on key city roads. Some businesses claimed some motorists are driving across their parking lots to avoid potholes, while some motorists complained that these holes are damaging their cars and causing unnecessary traffic congestion during peak hours.
