Kruger welcomes new managing executive

The Kruger National Park's new managing executive has all the experience and more to back him up.

With the recent flooding in the Kruger National Park (KNP), the public might have become familiar with a new name – Oscar Mthimkhulu.

As of January 5, Mthimkhulu was officially appointed the Kruger’s new managing executive.

Mthimkhulu has an impressive 25 years’ experience in the protected area management and ecotourism sectors. In his most recent position, he was the CEO of the Sabi Sand Nature Reserve.

Prior to that, he held various positions at Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife in KwaZulu-Natal. He was acting head of operations and park manager at Ukhahlamba Drakensberg Park, conservation manager at North Ukhahlamba Drakensberg Park World Heritage Site, as well as conservation manager at Central Ukhahlamba Drakensberg Park World Heritage Site.

He holds a national diploma in nature conservation, a diploma in human resources, a diploma in project management, a BTech in nature conservation, and a postgraduate diploma in business management.

The KNP said Mthimkhulu has a wealth of experience in strategic management and leadership, community development and corporate governance.

He was a co-chairperson of the Maloti-Drakensberg Park Work Heritage Site joint management committee. He is also the chairperson of the Greater Limpopo Transfrontier Conservation Area co-operative agreement joint management committee.

“We wish him all the best in his new role with SANParks and urge all employees to support him,” the park said.
