“December 13 will be remembered as the last day we had water in my street,” said Ludi Botha of White River.
Botha has been reporting the town’s water crisis to the City of Mbombela (CoM) through White River Neighbourhood Watch for the past two weeks, but to no avail.
“After weeks of daily reports, some areas have water, some have dirty water and some, like myself, have none. Those who do have are paying a premium for filthy, brown, undrinkable water.

“The CoM customer care does not even acknowledge receipt of my emails. I have emailed the municipality, municipal manager, the mayor and the municipal spokesperson. I also CC-ed the Power of 8000, the White River Ratepayers Association, a DA councillor, an FF Plus councillor, the KLCBT, and last week, also the South African Human Rights Commission.”
Botha said he has received no response to any of his emails and is intending to take the town’s waterless nightmare to national and international media.
The CoM was unavailable for comment at the time of being published.
