Casterbridge Music Academy hosts weekend of live music

The main aim was to show Mpumalanga what the academy has been up to in the world of performing arts.

The Casterbridge Music Development Academy kept the town on its toes over the weekend with live music performances at The Barnyard Theatre. One of the event organisers, Chelle Snyman, said they were excited to show Mpumalanga what they have been up to.

“The academy offers various programmes that nurture and grow young talent from all areas of the Lowveld. It provides a platform to showcase local talent. Included in our range of facilities are a fully equipped recording studio and a performing arts centre, which is housed within The Barnyard Theatre,” she said.

Snyman said the gumboot and traditional dancers and marimba band are all part of their school programme at their Masoyi hub.
All members of the Resident band are involved at the academy as either tutors, coaches, administrators or sound and lighting engineers.

The  opened the stage with some local and international songs, followed by the Resident band with songs such as the popular and well-known “Pata Pata” from the late Miriam Makeba. A well-known rock guitarist, Liam Jacobs, proved he had what it takes when attendees kept on calling him back for more. Traditional and gumboots dancers also kept the guests entertained with some stunning performances.
