Accused in murder of Nelspruit deputy sheriff will apply for bail

Although the accused had previously abandoned his bail application, he will apply for bail while in court tomorrow, December 14.

The man accused of murdering Nelspruit deputy sheriff Michelle Jones (31) and injuring her partner, Julio Baumgat, will appear for a formal bail application in the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, December 14.

The accused, Hendry Dlamini (32), had last appeared in court on November 8.

According to the Mpumalanga National Prosecuting Authority’s Monica Nyuswa, when Dlamini had appeared in court last month, he abandoned his bail application and the matter was postponed to December 13 for further investigation.

However, when the family and friends of Jones arrived at the court this morning, they were informed that the case had been postponed to December 14 for a formal bail application for Dlamini.

The accused is alleged to have shot Jones and Baumgat in Nelsville on the night of October 20.

Baumgat sustained six gunshot wounds to his right arm and was critically injured.

The couple were rushed to hospital following the shooting, where Jones was pronounced dead.
