Traffic lights on Dr Enos Mabuza in Mbombela to be back on soon

The municipal officials are on the ground to ensure that the traffic lights are functioning again.

The City of Mbombela is at the final stages to energise the traffic lights at the intersection between Dr Enos Mabuza and Johanna drives.
According to the municipality’s spokesperson, Joseph Ngala, the traffic lights have been affected by the widening of Dr Enos Mabuza Drive, and a variation order was requested from the council in order to complete the project, including the traffic and street lights.

“The municipal team is on the ground, working around the clock to make sure those traffic lights are functioning again, including the street lights on Johanna Drive. We have also managed to close the potholes that were making it difficult for motorists to drive on that road. We are now working on making sure that the robots start working as soon as possible. We have engaged with the relevant department into our municipality to ensure that the traffic lights function accordingly, and they confirmed that they will be working soon,” he said.

Motorists have been complaining about dysfunctional traffic lights and demanded that they should be repaired to avoid unnecessary accidents, especially during the festive season. They are claiming that certain motorists coming down the hill do not stop when they approach the intersection. They maintained that if the traffic lights were working, these motorists would be forced to stop at what is now just a half-ignored four-way stop.
