Severe thunderstorms expected over parts of Mbombela

Heavy rain and damaging winds are predicted for parts of Mpumalanga from this afternoon until late into the evening.

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has put out an alert for severe thunderstorms over parts of Mpumalanga for this afternoon and evening, December 6.

SAWS said the severe storm conditions are expected over the southern parts of Limpopo and Gauteng, and the central and southern parts of Mpumalanga, including Mbombela, Barberton and Sabie.

The warning was issued for 14:00 today until 23:00 this evening.

According to the weather service, civilians can expect localised flooding of low and susceptible formal and informal roads and settlements, as well as large amounts of small hail that could cause damages to properties.

Strong winds are also expected.
