Sons arrested for allegedly attempting to kill their father

The motive for shooting their father in his thigh has not been established.

Two male suspects, aged 25 and 27, have been arrested for allegedly attempting to kill their 68-year-old father at Maviljan Trust outside Bushbuckridge.
According to the provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, it is alleged that the victim was asleep on Monday night, November 28 at about 22:30 in his house, when he heard a knock on his bedroom door.

“It is further alleged that one of his sons indicated to him that he was bringing back a key. Instead of opening the door, the father only opened a window to receive the key and that was when three shots were fired, one hitting him in his thigh. There were three people outside, two of them allegedly his own sons. He managed to call the police and medical personnel who came to his rescue and transported him to hospital for medical treatment,” Mohlala said.

Mhohla also said a case of attempted murder case was opened at Bushbuckridge Police Station and the police immediately began their investigation, resulting in both suspects being arrested. They are expected to appear in the Bushbuckridge Magistrate’s Court later today, Tuesday November 29.

The provincial commissioner of SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Manamela, has strongly condemned acts of violence among family members.
