Suspected Mbombela serial housebreaker released from custody

The man had allegedly been caught trying to break into a home in Marloth Street earlier this month and was arrested, but has since been released.

The man arrested for suspected housebreaking in Marloth Street on November 2, has since been freed from custody.

The suspected housebreaker is believed to have been involved in several burglary cases around Steiltes and other parts of Mbombela, and has been arrested multiple times since 2019.

The suspect was set to appear in the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court on Friday November 4 on a charge of housebreaking, however, the Nelspruit Police Station’s spokesperson, Captain Zandile Gqawa, said the case was not enrolled in court and the man has since been released from custody.

The man’s name is known to Lowvelder, but cannot be published until he has made an appearance in court.

According to Securicon Lowveld’s Callum mac Pherson, he had personally arrested the alleged housebreaker on three occasions since 2019.

The man had been taken into custody for questioning before along with two other men in Steiltes on October 10, but was released shortly after.

Mac Pherson said the man had allegedly broken into a house in Marloth Street on Tuesday November 1, and was allegedly attempting to break into another house in the street the next day when he was spotted by members of the community.

Securicon Lowveld had been patrolling the area on November 2 when they saw the community chasing after the men and managed to capture one of them. He was then transported to the police station.
