JJ Peters appears in Nelspruit Regional Court for murder

The trial of JJ Peters, accused of his grandmother's murder, might only start next year as soon as he has legal representation and the state has got its case in order.

JJ Peters, who is accused of killing his grandmother, appeared in the Nelspruit Regional Court for the first time today, October 28. His case was postponed to November 9, because the accused had to reapply for a Legal Aid representative. The state also waits for the copies of the case from the district court before it can start with his trial. It indicated that the official trial will commence early next year, as soon as it has all the paperwork in order and the witnesses ready.

Peters has been in police custody for eight months. He abandoned his bail application during his third district court appearance on March 16, after he had been in court twice for an official bail application.

Peters is accused of murdering his grandmother, Sannie Strydom Kilmister (68), on February 28. Kilmister was allegedly strangled by Peters, who had been sharing her house on a smallholding in the Cromdale area. She was found dead in her bedroom with various bruise marks on her neck, and splashes of blood were found on her pillow.
