Five suspects due to appear in White River Magistrate’s Court for possession of explosives

The suspects were arrested while travelling from Hazyview towards Mbombela.

Five suspects aged between 20 and 35 are expected to appear in the White River Magistrate’s Court today, Tuesday September 6, after they were arrested between Hazyview and Mbombela during a multidisciplinary operation conducted by the Hawks’ Highway Patrol, Flying Squad, Explosives Unit and Local Criminal Record Centre (LCRC) Task Team.

The Hawks’ provincial spokesperson, Captain Dineo Sekgotodi, said the arrest came after the team had received information on Monday September 5 about a VW Polo suspected to be carrying illegal explosives, travelling from Hazyview to Mbombela.

“The vehicle with five occupants was stopped at White River. Upon a search, explosives were recovered and seized. The suspects were arrested and charged with the possession of illegal explosives,” she said.
