Jaws of Life needed in two separate vehicle accidents on Lowveld roads

No fatalities were reported in two accidents that occurred yesterday, but Jaws of Life had to be used in both to free occupants.

Emer-G-Med attended to two accidents on August 20, one on the Schoemanskloof Road and another on the R40 near the showgrounds.

At approximately 11:00 Emer-G-Med paramedics responded to the scene of a collision involving a minibus taxi and a truck in Schoemanskloof.

According to the emergency service, the two occupants of the taxi were found to be trapped with serious injuries.

“Paramedics worked fervently to stabilise them while Fire and Rescue Services cut them free using the Jaws of Life.”

Once free they were taken to a nearby hospital for further care.

In the second incident, that occurred at approximately 22:00 near the showgrounds, a light delivery vehicle was found to have overturned.

“A 50-year-old male driver, the only occupant of the vehicle, was found to have sustained moderate injuries and was trapped in the wreckage.”

Paramedics worked to stabilise the man while he too was cut free using the Jaws of Life.

He was also taken to a nearby hospital for further care.
