Pieterson’s Art and Framing will be hosting a charity auction in aid of Hospice White River on August 20.
The funds raised will assist hospice with the work it does for the community.
Local artists André van der Merwe, Hannes Scholtz and Pieter Henn each donated two of their artworks that will be up for auction.
Attendees can start arriving at Pieterson’s Gallery at 17 Chief Mgiyeni Khumalo Drive from 16:00, as the auction will commence at 17:00.
Van der Merwe is a pensioner and the house father of a safe haven for children. He has had a love of drawing since his school years, but never spent much time on it, yet this changed at the end of 2020.
He especially likes drawing popular musicians and actors from the 70s and 80s. Recently, he started a series in which he tries to capture the sadness and desolation of children who were “thrown away”.

The two pieces he donated are titled “Alone” (reserve price R900) and “Ballerina” (reserve price R1 200), both done in graphite pencil on paper and framed.
Having always been interested in arts and wanting to paint, Scholtz attended art sessions with Elizabeth Riding who concentrated on the art of painting the way the old masters did. He devoted his time and energy to art over the years and has developed his skills by attending many workshops with acclaimed artists.

Oils are his preferred medium and he paints various subjects, but especially enjoys doing landscapes, as the Lowveld and its environment serves as such great inspiration.
His two pieces are “Portrait of Ryk” (reserve price R1 000) and “Sunflowers for the Ukraine” (reserve price R1 000). The former is acrylic on board and framed, while the latter is acrylic on canvas.
Henn started drawing at a young age when his love of horses was always a keen subject. His grandfather would sit with him and guide him with his drawing.

He is the owner of Pieterson’s Art and Framing and horses are still one of his favourite subjects. His preferred mediums are pencil and acrylic palette knife, and he has recently added sculpture to his art.
Henn’s two pieces are “Pride” (reserve price R4 500) and “The Hunter” (reserve price R2 000). “Pride” is graphite on paper and framed while “The Hunter” is Chinese white pencil on board and framed.
The six pieces are available for viewing at the gallery.
