Two motorcyclists injured in two separate incidents around Mbombela

The first incident is reported to have occurred on Saturday August 13 on the R538. The second incident occurred on the Kaapsehoop Road today, August 14.

An American tourist and a Harley-Davidson bike rider were both critically injured in two seperate motorcycle accidents over the weekend.

The first incident was reported on the Lowveld Motorcycle Safety Initiative (LMSI) Facebook page and occurred on the R538 (the KMI Airport road) on Saturday August 13.
LMSI said in its post that a biker riding a Harley-Davidson was severely injured and transported to Nelspruit Mediclinic in a critical but stable condition.
Meanwhile, on Sunday August 14, ER24’s Ross Campbell reported that an American motorbike rider believed to be in his 50s suffered critical injuries. This after he collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle around a bend on the Kaapsehoop Road.
“The man, who is an American citizen, was apparently on his second day of a bike tour through South Africa,” said Campbell.
ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene at 10:28. The man was found to have suffered injuries to his right leg and was in a critical condition. He was treated with advanced life support interventions to stabilise his condition before being airlifted by a medical helicopter to a private hospital for further care.
Campbell said the police were on the scene for further investigation.
