Buscor bus with 60 passengers in accident in Mbombela

Only minor injuries were reported, with no fatalities. Passengers were rushed to the nearest hospitals.

Sixty passengers had a narrow escape when the Buscor bus in which they were travelling landed in a ditch on the Lydenburg road (R37) this morning, August 4. All passengers were rushed to different hospitals in Mbombela. It is believed the driver had lost control of the bus before it overturned near a bridge.

0According to one of the commuters, Slindile Simelane, they were travelling from Mataffin to various farms on the Lydenburg road when the bus landed in a ditch next to a circle. “The bus was going a little fast, but everything was normal until we heard a noise as it hit the road barriers. It suddenly overturned and that is all I can remember.”

She said some people passing by assisted by getting the injured people out of the bus and taking them to safety while they awaited emergency services.

A Buscor spokesperson Thomas Lubisi, said they are investigating the cause of the accident before taking any action. He made it clear that at the moment, they were ensuring that those affected are being taken care of, hospitalised and transported back home. “We would like to also wish a speedy recovery to those who have been injured. We also appreciate the fact that there were no fatalities during the accident.”

The spokesperson assured commuters of the safety of using Buscor buses and promised that a proper investigation would be launched to get to the bottom of the matter.
