Mpumalanga’s grade 12 class of 2021 will know their fate on Friday January 21

The Mpumalanga Department of Education said it wanted to reclaim the 80% pass bracket and obtain an 83% pass rate from the Class of 2021.

The Class of 2021 was the biggest in the history of writing the National Senior Certificate examination, with more than 62 264 full-time learners who registered. The announcement of the 2021 grade 12 National Senior Certificate examination results will take place on Friday January 21 at the University of Mpumalanga (UMP).

The results will be available from 08:00 that day at all the examination centres (schools). Historically, the matric results have been made widely available, the learners being identified through their ID numbers. The Department of Basic Education has announced that matric exam results will no longer be published on media platforms, in line with the recently introduced Protection of Personal Information Act.

The Mpumalanga’s MEC for education, Bonakele Majuba, said, “The department requests parents to accompany their children to collect the statements of results, and not to put any undue pressure on the learners. By going to the schools to collect results, schools will get an opportunity to clearly explain to parents the content of the statement of results.

“The top learners will receive bursaries to further their studies at any university in the country. The bursary includes payment for tuition, accommodation and books, and provides a monthly stipend. The event is supported by a long list of business leaders. As such, the top learners will receive a number of tokens that include laptops, tablets, mini refrigerators, microwave ovens, and so on. The overall best learner will receive a brand-new car on the day.”

Majuba said the event will take place in full compliance with Covid-19 regulations. “There will be a few guests at the venue and arrangements have been made. The majority of those attending are learners who performed outstandingly, including those who outshone the rest in various subjects: mathematics, science and technical mathematics, and the top 10 learners.

“The entire provincial school community will be able to follow the event live on various radio stations, including 15 community radio stations: Radio Pulpit; RISE fm, Ikwekwezi FM and Ligwalagwala FM. The department will also stream the event live on its Facebook page. Secondary schools within the province are requested to assemble their 2022 grade 12 classes in a hall to follow the event live. This will serve as a great motivation to the class of 2022. “The department has established a team of officials who will be able to provide psychosocial support to learners and parents who need it during this time.

This assistance can be reached by dialing the departmental toll-free line on 0800 203 116. There is also an Examination Help Desk to attend to all examination-related enquiries, and this is accessible during office hours by dialing 013 766 0033.”

The MEC said he wanted to take this opportunity to extend the department’s appreciation to everyone who contributed towards the smooth running of the 2021 grade 12 examination.
