Two suspects remanded in custody in Sabie for car hijacking and other charges

Chawe Lawrence Mashego (33) and Surprise Masume (29) were remanded in custody by the Sabie Magistrate's Court yesterday in relation to some vehicle hijacking cases.

The two suspects were arrested by the Nelspruit Hawks` Serious Organised Crime Investigation Unit, Crime Intelligence and the Nelspruit Flying Squad in Sabie on Wednesday December 29, for vehicle hijacking and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

According to the Flying Squad Unit, Mashego and Masume were driving a vehicle that had been hijacked in KaBokweni earlier in December, when a tracking company followed up on their GPS coordinates to locate the vehicle and alerted the unit.

The suspects were linked to other outstanding cases of theft of motor vehicles in KaBokweni, Pienaar and Graskop in 2019.

Surprise Masume.

Mashego and Masume were charged accordingly and appeared in the Sabie Magistrate’s Court yesterday. They faced charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, as well as possession of suspected stolen property.

The case was postponed to February 4 for bail application.
