According to her, life rebooting is for anyone going through a transition of any sort. "Sometimes you choose to reboot, but sometimes the choice is made for you by circumstances."

Melody Tomlinson, who herself had to reboot her own life when her husband, Cobus, recently suffered a sudden stroke, offered an inspirational talk at Tindlovu at the Gardens (Lowveld National Botanical Garden) last week about rebooting your life.

“Rebooting means making sure that when you make all the changes in your life or business, you debug your system. You let go of old patterns and start new, positive habits. You need to have an A team that you can go to and that will help you through the changes. Self-care is also very important during that period and it needs to be a routine,” she explained.

According to her, some changes will require one to shift from the role they are used to playing. “It takes courage, it takes planning, it requires support. Sometimes you have to take the leap and accept help. It is scary and super uncomfortable at times.

“Some people are used to being the one who is there to support and guide others during challenging times. I had to reboot my life when my husband recently suffered a sudden stroke. I had to accept that it is okay to accept support from others, and after I started opening about it, I saw a lot of people taking the liberty to play a role in my life,” she said.

As part of the SACBW’s Friendship in a Handbag initiative, contributions were made to GRIP. Barbara Kenyon, the founder of GRIP, was overjoyed to receive these handbags filled with goodies. “We appreciate all the support, and these handbags will play a big role in restoring dignity to the survivors.”

Tracy-Erin Duggan of SACBW said the networking session was a great success. “It was wonderful to see new faces and to catch up with members of the SACBW. It was a privilege to be able to hand over handbags in terms of the Friendship in a Handbag initiative, to our worthy charity GRIP.”

Duggan said those who would like to support the initiative may still do so.
