Former Mpumalanga EFF councillor crosses over to DA

Jane Sithole, the chairperson of the Mpumalanga DA, said they officially welcomed Chuene and other members to its ranks.

The former EFF councillor, Cyril Chuene, has left the Mpumalanga EFF for the DA. This was announced on Monday morning during a Mpumalanga DA media briefing held at Ingwenyama Conference and Sport Resort. Chuene said it is not a personal decision, but a political one.

“I have been a member of the EFF for five years. I served as provincial organiser. I am not fighting with the EFF; it is a matter of principles, policy and state, to pursue what I believe in.”

Jane Sithole, the chairperson of the Mpumalanga DA, said they officially welcomed Chuene and other members to its ranks. “He has rejected the divisive politics of the EFF and chosen to stand with the DA, because he believes in non-racialism, the rule of law and a market economy.”

Chuene started his journey with the DA in 2020. He has gone through the DA’s rigorous candidate selection process. The DA was also able to meet all requirements as prescribed by the IEC. This is a developing story. Lowvelder will keep its readers apprised.
