Homeless receive warmth of love in winter cold

As the temperatures continue to drop, the need for warm clothes for the less fortunate increases.

MBOMBELA – The Nelspruit Community Forum (NCF) is in need of men’s clothes and shoes. This organisation was formed a couple of years ago in response to the many people living on the streets of Mbombela.

It currently operates from the Damascus Farm. The farm and NCF are under the support of the Mpumalanga Leadership Foundation (MLF). MLF and NCF have been providing for the basic human needs, such as food, shelter and hygiene, of the homeless in Mbombela.

Pr TJ Maré of the NCF said, “It is winter and it is tough. We are in need of men shoes, size nine to 12. We also need clothes of sizes 28 to 36. We are always in need of men’s clothes, and donations of funds and food. We currently have a project of putting together Wendy houses to provide accommodation for the people on the farm. We use the funds donated to us for utilities.

“We are currently operating from the farm. This is because we are able to accommodate more people and also have space for storage. We will start an outreach into the city when Covid-19 regulations allow us to do so.”
Maré said the forum has a lot of plans for future initiatives. “We are planning to partner with various stakeholders. We plan to be able to find employment for the members through these partnerships. We need assistance so that we can continue existing and growing as the NCF,” he said.

He added that the community needs to know that the forum is still functioning, even when it is not visible due to Covid-19 regulations. Those wanting to donate may contact Maré on 082 772 6396.
