Miss Teen Mbombela donates to Pro Gratia Learning Centre

Siphokazi Motha donated two therapeutic swings to Pro Gratia Learning Centre at the end of last week.

Siphokazi, who spent the day assisting teachers at the school, stated that the initiative forms part of her duties as Miss Teen Mbombela 2020/21.

“The learners and their teachers were extremely welcoming,” she said. “I enjoyed spending time with them.”

Siphokazi’s brother, Ntando Mokwatlo, is a pupil at Pro Gratia. “He is diagnosed with autism – this, of course, encouraged my decision to reach out and volunteer, because I’ve experience the need of these children first-hand.”

According to Ansie Viljoen, deputy principal of Pro Gratia, about 60 per cent of the learners will benefit from the donation.

“The therapeutic swings stimulate the vestibular sense and improves its functioning,” Viljoen said. “The vestibular sense is the most important sense in a child’s development – it is responsible for balance and motor coordination.”

Siphokazi is set to compete as a finalist in Miss Teen South Africa and Miss High School Ehlanzeni later this year.
