Robbery at post office at Village Centre in Mbombela

An unknown number of occupants fired shots at the Hi-Tech's armed response officer in Penny Street.

A business robbery occurred at Village Centre on Wednesday at around 11:30. It is alleged that around three suspects had been involved.

Lowvelder was on the scene and ascertained that the incident happened at the post office.

Hi-Tech Security Nelspruit confronted the suspects as they fled the scene in a white Renault Clio. A pursuit ensued. According to Callum mac Pherson, regional operational manager at Hi-Tech, an unknown number of occupants fired shots at the armed response officer in Penny Street. “The officer returned fire and hit the vehicle, smashing its rear window,” Mac Pherson said.

The driver of the vehicle, at high speed, shook Hi-Tech’s vehicle after apparently skipping a red traffic light in the direction of Valencia.

“We believe that he is heading in the direction of Kaapsehoop as he changed direction where the vehicle was last spotted,” said Mac Pherson.
