Taxi crashes into barrier on N4 critically injuring one, while 11 sustain injuries

Specialised tools were used by the provincial fire services to free the trapped man from the wreckage.

An accident left 12 passengers injured after the driver of a taxi crashed into a roadside barrier on the N4 near Karino this morning.

According to ER24 spokesperson, Russel Meiring, the accident occurred just before 03:40. The impact left the taxi on its side and the barrier had split, piercing through the vehicle’s body.

“ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene to find several other services already in attendance. “On closer inspection, medics found one patient lying trapped inside the taxi while 11 others were found seated on the side of the road,” said Meiring.

Specialised tools were used by the provincial fire services to free the trapped man from the wreckage. “Once he was freed, medics assessed the passengers and found that the trapped man was in a critical condition while the remaining 11 had sustained moderate injuries,” he added.

Paramedics treated the passengers and administered advanced life-support interventions to the critically injured man before they were transported to local hospitals for further treatment. “Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations,” Meiring concluded.
