Mrs Mpumalanga finalist wants to empower women

Mrs Mpumalanga 2021 finalist, Annelize Botha held a beautiful event aimed at empowering women in the country, at Jelani Guest House on Friday night.

Esteemed guests such as retired politician and businesswoman, Pinky Phosa, and her daughter, newly published author, Tshepiso Phosa, attended the intimate, glittering event.

Mrs Mpumalanga 2017, Bianca Rennison, and Neon Grace Church Nelspruit’s Pr Danie van Wyk and his wife, Tashai, were also in attendance.

Botha named the event “To change the world”, with the aim of sending the message that people are empowered through education and that we must continue to empower other women in a world were they are often underestimated.

“By being a finalist for Mrs Mpumalanga 2021, I am doing more to help in my community than I ever have before. I want to uplift people and help guide them in achieving their goals,” she said.

Botha added that she was in the process of helping a local White River school get all the necessary learning material it needs.

“Education empowers people,” she said. Botha added that under the Mrs Mpumalanga charity work, she also wanted to help Millennium Home of Hope with whatever it might need.

Pinky said in her speech that one aspect to the theme is to achieve gender equality.

“Gender equality is essential. Women are struggling because we are still discriminated against,” she said.

“We often blame the patriarchy for our struggles because we expect men to soften a bit on this stance, but we as women must speak up.

“If a female colleague is brushed off in a meeting, speak up for her. We need to empower one another and create a safe space for constructive engagement,” she added.

Nolizwi Manzini and Angelique Mazibuko from Angelique Designs. The company will be dressing Annelize for the Mrs Mpumalanga 2021 finals.

Botha added that the auctions at the event raised R7 753 for charity. She said more funds are still coming in and are yet to be counted.
