White River robbery victim pleads for return of mom’s photo

A case of car theft and burglary has been lodged with the White River police who were at the scene this morning after J&M Security had responded.

A White River resident, Nanette van der Westhuizen, issued a plea for the return of her purse after her home was burgled and her family’s cars were stolen this morning.

Van der Westhuizen said that at approximately 02:30, the burglars entered the property, removed all the keys from the vehicles and made off with one bakkie.

“From what we have been able to ascertain, the intruder, or intruders, worked very stealthily and it appears that they tampered with the electric motor gate.

“The motor was reset to manual and that is how they gained entry to the property,” she said. The guard dogs did not bark to alert the occupants, but the family noticed muddy handprints on the window frames after the burglars made their getaway.

“They drew open every window in the house before removing a window pane. Fortunately, they did not enter while we were asleep.”

“My purse containing about R2 500 in cash was also taken during the break-in,” she added. The purse also contained the only photo of her late mother that holds sentimental value.
