Accused in Komatipoort farm murder to appear in High Court on November 12

The seven people accused of shooting farm manager, Deon de Bruyn, who was 25 years old at the time, are set to appear in the Mpumalanga High Court on November 12.

KOMATIPOORT – They are alleged to have entered De Bruyn’s home on Simonsvlei Farm on June 19, 2018 and fatally shooting him.

The victim’s employer, Estelle Jansen, survived after being shot multiple times. Three days after the attack, Rawun Mhlanga (28), Derrick Makamo (24), Sifiso Madonsela (33), Oscar Chauke (36) and Solomon Msimango (33) were arrested in various locations in the Tonga area.

Since the initial arrest, two more suspects were apprehended by the police, bringing the number of people implicated to seven.

They have appeared in court a number of times, with the latest appearance on September 4, being postponed for hearing.

Farmers in South Africa held countrywide protests to highlight the plight of those who are being targeted by criminals. De Bruyn’s mother, Susan, was at a protest in Barberton on Sunday. She expressed her wish that the court case be finalised and the accused be brought to justice.

“They will appear in the Mpumalanga High Court on November 12 and I call on everyone who opposes farm murders to come out in support,” Susan said.
