Covid-19: Country records further drop in Covid-19 cases
As on August 24, a total of 1 677 new cases have been confirmed and a total number of 3 564 065 tests have been conducted nationwide to date.
According to Health Minister, Dr Zweli Mkhize, 100 more Covid-19 related deaths were recorded of which 14 were recorded in KwaZulu-Natal, 36 in Mpumalanga, 12 in Gauteng, eight in Limpopo, 11 in the Eastern Cape and 19 in the Western Cape. This brings the total of deaths countrywide to 13 159.
Mkhize also reported that the country’s recoveries now stand at 516 494, which translates to a recovery rate of 84%.
Currently, there are still 81 797 active cases. Gauteng accounts for 33,8% of all cases, while KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape follow with 18% and 17,2% of cases respectively. The Eastern Cape accounts for 14% of cases and the Free State accounts for 5,7%. Limpopo, Mpumalanga, North West and Northern Cape account for fewer than 5% of all cases. In total, more than 3,5 million tests have been conducted, 10 640 of which in the previous 24 hours.
