Zanempi Goodwin Shongwe (31), who is accused of murdering 61-year-old John Bosman on October 2, 2018, appeared in the Nelspruit Regional Court yesterday.
Shongwe faces an additional murder charge which he allegedly committed in Masoyi, subsequent to the attack on John. He was arrested shortly afterwards and submitted a confession pointing to his part in the attack.

The accused claimed that he and his accomplices planned and executed the attack, but denied firing the shot that felled John.
The protracted court case hinges on whether Shongwe’s confession is admissible in court and if the police are able to trace his accomplices, according to John’s widow, Jennifer Leigh.

Jennifer was excused by the court and did not attend the proceedings as she had relocated to Pretoria after her husband’s death.
The matter was postponed to September 4 for further investigation while Shongwe remains in custody.
