Man who ran 45 kilometres on his balcony puts his efforts towards a good cause

A 36-year-old Mbombela resident took things to a whole new level when he ran the length of his balcony 3 462 times.

MBOMBELA – After the overwhelming response following Morné Green’s 45-kilometre run on his 13-metre balcony, he decided to use this publicity to challenge the community for a good cause.

Green, a 36-year-old Mbombela resident, initially had one goal in mind – to beat marathon enthusiast Elisha Nochomovitz from France. “I have, however, decided to use this opportunity to get the community involved and help those in need, especially during these trying times,” he said. Green calls this project the Community Can Challenge.

“When you decide to replenish your household goods, consider buying a can of food for the less fortunate,” he said.

Green aims to collect 49 902 cans of food – the same amount of steps he covered during his run.

Here’s how

For now, collection bins are available at Crossing and The Grove SUPERSPARs. “If you wish to do so, take a picture and upload it to the Community Can Challenge Facebook page,” he said, and added that at a later stage, the cans will be distributed to the less fortunate local communities.

Cash donations can be deposited into Penreach‘s bank account.
