GRIP asks victims to report cases

The Greater Rape Intervention Project calls on rape victims to report their cases before it is too late.

Barbara Kenyon, founder of GRIP, told Lowvelder, “We have had cases of gender violence reported but no rape cases (during lockdown). If the victims do not report within 72 hours they are not eligible for the HIV testing and other tests”.

“Victims should please report immediately so we can assist them,” she continued.

She added, “We are open 24 hours. If an individual has problems with transport they can still contact us and we will assist”.

GRIP provides temporary refuge for those in need of a place to stay. She added, “Our GRIP Shelter is available 24 hours a day. Unfortunately, we are unable to operate in the police stations during lockdown, but the police will escort an individual to the hospitals should they need transport.”

“Please do not endure abuse because you are in lockdown. Neither you nor your children deserve to be abused and we are here for you. Do not feel that you have no power to leave the abuse,” she advised.
