BARBERTON – In a packed Barberton Town Hall, protesting residents awaited the arrival of COGTA MEC, Mandla Msibi last Thursday.

They sang protest songs and were vocal about wanting to split from the City of Mbombela Local Municipality, citing high unemployment, a deterioration in service delivery, the high cost electricity and a host of other grievances.

Protest leaders, Mandla Mamba and Njabulo Mkhonto called for calm and vowed that peaceful protests would continue until their demands were met.
