N11 head-on collision claims nine lives

In yet another horrific head on collision on N11 Road between Middelburg and Hendrina, nine people were killed on impact.

The nine were all passengers in the mini bus taxi.

Eight of the deceased were burnt beyond recognition. They are believed to be employees at a nearby mine.

Both drivers of the minibus and the articulated truck were slightly injured and are being treated at a Life Cosmos Hospital in Emalahleni.

The cause of the crash is not yet known.

The crash investigation experts from RTMC and Safety Engineering officials from the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison have commenced with investigations.

The police will also investigate cases of culpable homicide.

Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC, Gabisile Shabalala has expressed shock at the collision saying that motorists should use roads more cautiously.

The MEC also notes that N11 Road continues to experience deadly crashes.

She announced during her maiden policy and budget speech presentation last week that the road is among those that will be receive more attention in the current financial year due to the number of crashes experienced on that road.

MEC Shabalala sent her condolences to the bereaved families.

She has is also wishing those who were injured a speedy recovery.
