Eskom implements stage four load shedding

Eskom implemented stage four load shedding today due to the continuous pressure on the national grid.

Eskom had load shedding yesterday for the first time since December 9, 2018, they kicked it off on stage two which then quickly progressed to stage 4 on February 11, 2019. Stage four load shedding will be implemented at 13:00 and is likely to continue until 22:00 on February 11.

In a press release Eskom issued on February 11, they stated they have lost an additional six generating units which have put additional strain on the system.

Stage 1 requires 1000MW, Stage 2 requires 2000MW, Stage 3 requires 3000MW and Stage 4 calls for 4000MW to be rotationally loadshed nationally at a given period. Loadshedding is conducted rotationally as a measure of last resort to protect the power system.

Eskom urges the public to use electricity sparingly in order to protect the resources. They asked the public to please switch off their geysers and non-essential electrical appliances to reduce the demand.
