A massive outbreak of listeriosis is currently under way in South Africa, with more than 700 cases reported during 2017 and more than 900 cases since the outbreak began. Cases have been reported from all nine provinces. A total of 34 cases have been confirmed in Mpumalanga – eight of which were fatal.
