From the newsroom: I’m thankful for the warm welcome

Die mense het toe nie vir my gejok nie. Die Onderbergers is vriendelike en spesiale mense. Dankie dat julle my so gemoedelik aanvaar.

Goed, ek het wel reeds ‘n paar tone raakgetrap en nie terwyl ek gedans het nie! Praat met my, raas met my as julle moet, maar onthou ons kan ook so nou en dan doen met ‘n kompliment. Ek is reeds meer as 20 jaar in die nuusbedryf en ons plaaslike span gaan sorg dat hierdie mondstuk van julle almal se verwagtinge oortref.

Maar geen koerant kan sonder die bydraes van sy mense en sy lesers nie. Ons begin met ‘n sosiale blad spesiaal vir julle mooi kiekies (onthou iemand nog dié woord?). Kyk gerus op ons webblad www.corridorgazette.co.za en/of Facebook vir meer inligting daaroor. Op dié manier leer ons mekaar selfs beter ken en as jou foto ons uitboul, plaas ons dit op die voorblad – so ‘n bietjie goeie nuus in plaas van die gewone moord en doodslag.

Die Guardian Angels is bekend vir hulle uisonderlike en onbaatsugtige werk en op 21 Maart kry ons kontrei geleentheid om hulle te ondersteun wanneer André Swiegers op die oewer van die Krokodilrivier kom sing. Dis die eerste maal in ons Malalane dat ‘n privaatwoning hiervoor ingespan word en alle wins gaan aan die Angels. Bring jou piekniekmandjie en Klipdrift of ‘n goeie Sauvignon Blanc en kom kuier saam. Dis vir ‘n goeie doel.

From everyone at the office, happy birthday to Eunice with the friendly voice and endless patience on our switchboard. May you be even more blessed now that you have hit the big 40. Our Madeleine has had eye surgery and our prayers are with her and we hope to have her back soon. In the meantime, thank you to Danine who is temporarily doing her job and making such a success of it.

This issue carries good news for wildlife farmers with the announcement of more money for rehabilitation of injured and traumatised rhino. Let us also hope that with the government’s new plans to curb the slaughter of our rhino, that actual change will take place and that we will leave a better legacy for the next generation. Unfortunately, crime in all its brutal forms, does not abate and the sad story on our front page is testimony to that.
