Former queen in service of the community

Today,i go to public places guiding and advising locals, my dream is to see most locals being succesful

BURGERSFORT – Former Miss Tubatse Maphefo Maruma (22) says she enjoyed her tenure as the ambassador of the platinum city. Maruma was crowned Miss Tubatse back in 2011, and was at the helm for the past two years.

She said goodbye to the crown, when she handed it to Kgaogelo Malatji last year on December 21.

In an interview with Steelburger/Lydenburg News the beautiful queen who hails from Riba-Cross expressed her wishes to continue with charity work in the local villages.

“After being crowned the first lady of Greater Tubatse Municipality (GTM), I started viewing life in a broader way. I started having an obsession with donating items and could not stop. I had the privilege of donating food parcels, uniforms, and doing motivational speaking. Without my community I am nothing, that is the reason I ventured into community projects.”

She says she learnt a lot from interacting with people around local communities, and that helped her to grow into a better person.

“Today, I go to public places guiding and advising the locals. My dream is to see most locals being successful.”

Maruma’s current community project is a back to school campaign aimed at encouraging learners who quit school to go back and finish their studies.

The model currently holds the Miss Ora Tshiamo (OT) which is a competition designed for local models. She added that she will be using the title to inspire and touch the lives of the youth.

“My goal is to build more leaders, I can’t change the whole world at the same time but I can do my best and change somebody’s life.”

She concluded by encouraging the youth to focus on education and quit alcohol and drugs, as they destroy the communities.

“We all need a strong weapon which is education, I am also continuing with my studies at university this year.”
