UPDATE: Road reopens at R40 and Plaston road intersection after truck accident

Clean-up crews are busy clearing the last bits of cement, but the road is open to traffic.

Clean-up operations have progressed and the R40 and Plaston road intersection has been reopened to traffic.
This after an articulated truck rolled and lost its load of cement bags, resulting in the road being closed earlier this morning, August 3.

Emer-G-Med’s Martin Jeffrey said the truck has been recovered and only a clean-up crew still remains, clearing the last bits of cement.

Jeffrey said members of the public stopped at the scene and looted the truck earlier, resulting in chaos and worsening the situation.

He said it is understood that the truck, registered in Mozambique, was heading down the Plaston road, wanting to turn left onto the R40, when the driver lost control and ended up rolling the truck. Fortunately the driver only sustained moderate injuries.

The SAPS was on scene, and the pubic was urged to avoid the area while the road remained closed.
